  • As the founder and an Indigenous woman from the Chickasaw Nation Tribe, I named this practice inspired by the book "Braiding Sweetgrass" by Robin Wall Kimmerer. The book's reflections on the relationship between humans and the land, and the concept of reciprocity, deeply resonated with me.

In my culture, sweetgrass symbolizes healing, peace, and spirituality. Just as each strand of sweetgrass is integral to the braid, each aspect of our lives is essential to our well-being. This holistic approach to mental health, emphasizing the mind, body, and spirit connection, guides our practice.

At Sweetgrass Therapy, we nurture the relationship with ourselves, others, and the world around us. Our approach combines traditional Indigenous wisdom and contemporary therapeutic techniques, grounded in reciprocity, respect, and community.

  • Yes! We are in network with most Aetna commercial plans, and Anthem Blue Cross through Medi-Cal. If we are not in network with your insurance, we are able to provide you with a superbill to submit to your insurance for partial reimbursement. A lot of the time, insurance will cover a big chunk of sessions that are paid out of pocket. Send us a message if you would like us to check what your out of network benefits are.

  • A superbill is a document for insurance companies that details the services a healthcare provider performs for a client. After a client's session is paid for by the client, they will be provided with a superbill from their therapist. This superbill will simply be uploaded to your insurance portal, so that insurance can send a check to the client for partial reimbursement of the session. Essentially, it's a receipt for a client's visit. However, unlike traditional receipts, superbills contain vital information, like diagnosis and procedure codes, required by insurance companies to reimburse the client for the services after they've paid.

  • Our fee ranges from $150 - $300 depending on the service you are seeking, and the therapist you would like to work with. We are able to check your out of network benefits for you to see how much your insurance may reimburse you for working with an out of network provider. Please inquire regarding limited sliding sale availability.

  • Yes, we do! We offer couples therapy to help partners improve communication, resolve conflicts, and strengthen their relationship. Our therapists use evidence-based approaches, such as the Gottman Method, to provide effective support for couples. Whether you are facing specific challenges or simply want to enhance your connection, we are here to help you build a healthier, more fulfilling relationship.

  • The length of time you will spend in therapy varies depending on your individual needs and goals. Some clients find that a few months of therapy are sufficient to address their concerns, while others may benefit from a longer-term therapeutic relationship. Your therapist will work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan and will regularly review your progress to ensure your needs are being met.

  • The frequency of your therapy sessions depends on your specific situation and goals. Initially, many clients start with weekly sessions to build momentum and make progress. Over time, as you begin to achieve your goals, the frequency may decrease to bi-weekly or monthly sessions. Your therapist will collaborate with you to determine the best schedule to support your ongoing growth and well-being.

  • Your first therapy session is an opportunity for you and your therapist to get to know each other. Your therapist will ask questions about your background, current concerns, and goals for therapy. This initial session is also a chance for you to ask questions and discuss any apprehensions you might have. Our aim is to create a safe, welcoming space where you feel comfortable beginning your therapeutic journey.

  • Therapy sessions typically last 50 minutes. The frequency of sessions depends on your individual needs and goals, which you and your therapist will discuss during your first session. Some clients prefer weekly sessions, while others may benefit from bi-weekly or monthly appointments. Together, we will create a schedule that supports your progress.

  • We understand that life can be unpredictable. If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, please provide at least 24 hours' notice. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours' notice may be subject to a cancellation fee. This policy helps us manage our schedule and ensures that other clients can use the available time.

  • We believe the therapeutic relationship is crucial to your healing journey. If you don't feel a connection with your therapist, please let us know. We are committed to finding the right fit for you and will work together to match you with a therapist who meets your needs and makes you feel comfortable.
